FAQ

Is counseling effective?

Most clients start to feel relief within       the first few sessions. Your counseling   experience will be tailored specifically     to your needs and goals. We will be a      support in your life, someone who           remains objective and neutral. We will     identify your strengths, and collaborate   with you to find solutions to your             challenges.

What can I expect with the first session?

During your first visit, you and your counselor will get a chance to get to know one another. Your counselor will go over some routine forms with you to explain what your rights are as a client, what you can expect from your counselor, and what the sessions will look like moving forward. You will have the opportunity to tell your counselor what’s bringing you in to see us, and talk about what you hope to get out of the experience so that we can begin working collaboratively toward your goals.

How long will therapy take?

This varies for everyone. What we usually tell people is in 1-3 sessions you should start to feel more hopeful, in 4-8 sessions you should have more insight into why things are as they are and gain momentum towards redesigning your life, and by 8 sessions you should  already be identifying and trying some new skills to help yourself move forward. Creating a new life takes work and if you find our relationship to be supportive toward your growth, continue coming!

How do I know if I need counseling?

If you are thinking about seeking therapy, it is likely because there is something that has either shifted in your thoughts, feelings, or behavior that is uncomfortable for you or you have decided to explore a long-standing problem. People often find that although they have successfully handled many challenging situations alone or with the help of family, friends or clergy, there are those problems that may “tip the scales” and cause them to seek help. This commitment to feeling better and attaining greater peace and happiness is a sign of strength and commitment to one’s self.
